Jitendra Singh launches theme of National Science Day 2022

Union Science and Technology Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh today launched the theme of National Science Day 2022. The theme of this year is ‘Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future’. The National Science Day is observed every year on 28th February to mark the discovery of the Raman effect. Launching the theme in New Delhi, Dr. Singh expressed hope that through this all the institutions across the country will be able to chart out programmes to observe the day. He said this is the best time to give a push to this theme because a lot of awareness of science has been generated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

India’s TS Tirumurti assumes new chair of UN Counter-Terrorism Committee

TS Tirumurti, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations was named the new Chair of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) on Tuesday (local time).

Prior to taking up his current position as Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, in May 2020, Tirumurti served as Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, handling the Economic Relations portfolio (which included, inter alia, the Gulf and the Arab World, Africa, and India’s Development Partnership), according to UNSC statement. India will chair the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in January. This Committee was formed in September 2001 soon after the tragic terrorist attack of 9/11 in New York, while India had chaired this Committee in the Security Council in 2011-12.

Smart Cities Mission launches “SAAR” program

Smart Cities Mission has launched “Smart cities and Academia Towards Action & Research (SAAR)” program. It is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, National Institute of Urban Affairs and leading Indian academic institutions of the country. Under the program, 15 premier architecture & planning institutes of the country will be working with Smart Cities to document landmark projects undertaken by the Smart Cities Mission. The documents will capture learnings from best practices. It will provide opportunities to students for engagement on urban development projects and enable real-time information flow between urban practitioners and academia.

Food processing minister launches 6 brands under ODOP

Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Pashupati Kumar Paras on Wednesday launched six brands, including Kashmiri chilli, developed as part of the ‘One District-One Product’ (ODOP) approach under a central scheme PMFMES. These six brands are out of 10 that the ministry has signed up with cooperative NAFED for branding and marketing of ODOPs under the Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro food processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFMES). The central scheme PMFMES aims to provide financial, technical and business support for upgradation/ setting up of two lakh micro food processing units based on the ODOP approach in a period of five years from 2020-21 to 2024-25 with an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore.
