Context:-During the current G-20 conference in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India and the World Health Organization (WHO) are set to launch the Global Initiative on Digital Health.
Key points:-
- The first-of-its-kind worldwide initiative at
1)data convergence
2)interface of the health platform
3)Global investment in the digital
health sector.
- A key temporary medical countermeasure (MCM) is being implemented as part of the Summit.
- The program aligns with the objective of universal health coverage and aims to improve healthcare services globally using digital technologies.
Briefly discuss about the Global Initiative on Digital Health:-
- Together with the World Health Organization (WHO), India launched it.
- A digital platform that will be a part of the program will have a library of current digital health platforms as well as an investment tracker, an ask tracker, and an ask tracker to identify who needs what kinds of products and services.
- The WHO and India jointly proposed the GIDH, a network-based effort with four major pillars aimed at identifying national needs.
- As a WHO Managed Network (“Network of Networks”), GIDH will focus on four fundamental pillars to address issues including duplication of effort and “products-focused” digital health transformation.
Four Fundamental Pillar:-
- Country Needs Tracker
Permitting digital health investments to be guided by national priorities.
- Country Resource Portal
Recognizing traditional and unique resource opportunities, encouraging openness, and decreasing the risk of duplication in order to enable a standards-based prospective and retrospective study of digital health funding shortages.
- Transformation Toolbox
Encouraging for quality-assured tools and resources that increase the country ‘s ability and authority to govern the national digital health revolution.
- Convening and Knowledge Exchange
Supporting improved collaboration and knowledge exchange across global, regional, and national networks in digital health.
Importance of GIDH:-
- Digital health technologies and solutions would contribute to universal health coverage and improve healthcare service delivery
- The global data sharing platform will share analysis and aim to improve data interoperability. This ensures that citizens retain ownership of their data.
- The conference is also attempting to gain support for the establishment of a Climate and Health Initiative in India in conjunction with the Asian Development Bank, as well as the launch of a patient and healthcare workforce mobility portal.
- Digital health offers the ability to reduce disease and healthcare costs while also assisting people in monitoring and managing chronic disorders.
- By greatly boosting access to health data and providing people greater influence over their health, digital tools provide healthcare practitioners with a comprehensive view of patient health.
