Government e-Marketplace (GeM)
- GeM is an online market platform that was launched in 2016 to make it easier for government ministries, departments, and public sector undertakings (PSUs) to buy goods and services.
- It was intended to serve as India’s National Procurement Portal.
- It was developed with the technical assistance of the National e-governance Division (Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology) and the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (Ministry of Commerce and Industry).
- It is managed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D).
- GeM is an entirely paperless, cashless, and system-driven e-marketplace for common-use goods and services that allows for minimal human interaction in the procurement process.
