Sagar Parikrama Initiative

Context– Recently the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying ,Shri Parshottam Rupala launched the Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase V in Maharashtra.
Key highlights:
- The Sagar parikrama Yatra V would be processed towards coastal regions like Gateway of India, Vasco Mormugao, Canacona (South Goa), Karanja, Malvan, Mikrkarwada and Devgad of Maharashtra .
- The Sagar parikrama aims to enhance the livelihood and holistic development of fishermen and fisher folks focussing on climate change and sustainable fishing.
About the Sagar Parikrama Initiative
- It is an initiative by the Government of india that aims to resolve the issues of fishers, other stakeholders and facilitate the upliftment of their economies through various fisheries schemes and programmes being implemented by the Government of india such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana(PMSSY) and Kisan Credit Card(KCC).
- The Sagar parikrama aims to focus on livelihoods of coastal fisherman communities ,bring about sustainable balance between the utilization of marine fisheries resources for food security of the nation and the protection of marine ecosystems to bridge the gaps of fisher communities and their expectations, developmental fishing villages, upgradation and creation of infrastructure such as fishing harbors and landing centers to ensure sustainable and responsible development through an ecosystem approach.
- Phase I was organized in Gujarat from Mandvi to PorBandar, Phase II from Mangrol to Veraval , Phase III from Surat to Sasoon dock, Mumbai and Phase IV from Mormugao,Goa to Mangalore.
