1. PM-JANMAN

In News: The implementation of PM Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyaan (PM-JANMAN) has been slowing down because of simultaneous data collection of beneficiaries under the scheme.

  • The Union Cabinet authorised the scheme in 2023 and the scheme is applied at some stage in FY 2023-24 to 2025-26.
  • The Mission would offer PVTG families and groups (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) important services.
  • The 11 vital interventions consisting of Central Sector and Centrally Sponsored Schemes through 9 Ministries, which include the Ministry of Tribal Affairs encompass:
    • Provision of pucca houses;
    • Connecting roads;
    • Providing Piped water deliver;
    • Ensuring Community water supply;
    • Providing Mobile clinical units with medication cost;
    • Construction of hostels;
    • Providing Vocational education and skilling;
    • Construction of Anganwadi Centres;
    • Construction of Multipurpose Centres (MPC).

2. Financial Intelligence Unit

In News: Financial Intelligence Unit-India (FIU-IND) has recently imposed a fine of Rs 5.49 crore on Paytm Payments Bank for violating its obligations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

  • Financial Intelligence Unit – India (FIU-IND) is the imperative, countrywide agency hooked up in 2004 under the Ministry of Finanace.
  • It is answerable for receiving, processing, reading and disseminating statistics referring to suspect financial transactions to enforcement groups and foreign FIUs.
  • It is also responsible for coordinating and strengthening efforts of national and international intelligence, research and enforcement companies in pursuing the global efforts against money laundering and financing of terrorism.
  • FIU-IND is an independent body reporting without delay to the Economic Intelligence Council (EIC) headed by the Finance Minister.

3. Kalbelia Dance

Recent news

The ‘Kalbelia’ dance, performed by artists from Rajasthan, was showcased at the National Culture Festival in Hyderabad, organised by the Union Ministry of Culture.

Details:

  • The Kalbelia dance is a traditional folk dance from Rajasthan, also known as the Sapera Dance or Snake Charmer Dance. 
  • It is performed by the Kalbelia tribe, who were once snake charmers but now express their former occupation through music and dance. 
  • The dance was recognized by UNESCO as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2010. 
  • During the dance, male musicians play traditional instruments while female dancers in black skirts replicate the movements of a serpent. 
  • The dancers wear traditional tattoos, jewellery, and embroidered garments.

4. Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project (PMP)

Recent News:

  • During the recent Nepal-India official dialogue, there was no discussion on the progress of the Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project, even though a power-sharing agreement was signed over a month ago.
  • The project is currently not moving forward because there are disagreements about how the benefits should be shared, which is causing difficulties in starting it.

About:

  • The Mahakali River serves as the location for a collaborative hydropower project between Nepal and India, governed by a treaty signed in 1996. 
  • The goal of the project is to produce 6,480 MW of energy, evenly distributed between the two countries, and provide irrigation water for 130,000 hectares of land in Nepal and 240,000 hectares in India.
