1.GI tags for Meghalaya products

Context: The Geographical Indication (GI) tag has been given to Meghalaya’s Lakadong turmeric, as well as Garo dakmanda, Larnai pottery, and Garo chubitchi.

Products:

  • The Lakadong Turmeric is a product from the Lakadong area in Meghalaya, known for its high curcumin content. 
  • The Garo Dakmanda is a product from Meghalaya, featuring the traditional dress of the Garo tribes. 
  • Larnai Pottery is an artisanal black pottery from the Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya. 
  • Garo Chubitchi is a rice-based alcoholic beverage associated with the Garo tribe.

2.Urban Flood Mitigation Project

Details:

  • The Prime Minister has given approval for the first urban flood mitigation project in Chennai. 
  • The project, called ‘Integrated Urban Flood Management Activities for Chennai Basin Project (IUFM)’, will receive a funding of Rs. 500 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund. 
  • The main objective of the project is to enhance Chennai’s ability to withstand and recover from floods.

About IUFM:

This approach emphasises the connection between various factors such as socioeconomic development, environmental sustainability, and flood-risk management.

3.Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar Project

In News: Government of India has decided to prepare mapping and documentation of all villages under Mera Gao, Meri Dharohar (MGMD) programme.

  • The Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the  Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA) launched the Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar (MGMD) project as part of the National Cultural Survey. 
  • Objective: The objective of the MGMD program is to collect comprehensive information about the life, history and atmosphere of Indian villages and make it available to virtual and live visitors. 
  •  MGMD collects data into seven broad categories: 
    • Village of Arts and Crafts  
    • An environmentally friendly village 
    • An educational village connected to Indian textual and biblical traditions  
    • An epic village associated with Ramayana, Mahabharata and/or mythological legends and oral epics 
    • A historic village linked to local and national history 
    • Architectural Heritage Village

4.Table-Top Exercise (TTX)

In News: The Indian Army recently conducted a tabletop exercise for women officers of ASEAN Women Peacekeepers at the Manekshaw Center in New Delhi.

  • It is an initiative to promote gender inclusion and improve the skills of female soldiers in peacekeeping operations. 
  • It underlines India’s shared commitment to  peace, stability and gender equality in the world. 
  • This is part of the ongoing efforts of the United Nations Peacekeeping Center (CUNPK) to strengthen international cooperation and capacity building in peacekeeping operations, with a special focus on women’s empowerment in this field. 
    • CUNPK is the premier institution of the Indian Army that imparts training in peacekeeping operations.

5.Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme

In News: 16 defence technologies have been successfully developed/realised under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme.

  • It is a  Ministry of Defense (MOD) program implemented by DRDO under the Make-in-India initiative. 
  • The government approved the TDF program to encourage the participation of the public and private sectors, especially SMEs and start-ups, in the design and development of various defense technologies domestically. 
  • In 2016, the competent authority prepared and approved the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the TDF system. 
  • The SOP describes the assessment and evaluation  criteria.
