One Nation One pass

Syllabus: Indian society [GS Paper-1]

Context: The National Transit Pass System ‘One Nation-One Pass’ was recently launched by the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Labour and Employment. Its purpose is to ensure smooth transportation of timber, bamboo, and other forest produce throughout the country.

Details:

  • The National Timber Permit System (NTPS) aims to create a unified system for issuing timber transit permits in order to facilitate smooth transportation throughout the country.
  • This initiative will simplify the process for tree growers and farmers involved in agroforestry by providing an online platform, thereby improving the business environment.

About National Transit Pass System:

  • This system allows for easy issuance of transit passes, keeping track of permits for transporting timber and bamboo within and between states. It applies to both private and government-owned lands and depots, as well as other forest products.

Important aspects:

  • This is an app you can use on your computer or phone. It works based on roles and tasks.
  • It lets you sign up and send in apps for Transit Permits or No Objection Certificates online.
  • Apps for species grown on personal property don’t need a travel pass. But, apps for species from private land do require one.
  • The software can make Travel Permits or clearances for different types of animals.
  • These permits will use QR codes that can be checked at different state gates.
    • To get the permit, you can pay online using your phone app or website before it is ready for use.

Recent Development:

  • At present, transit permits are given for moving timber and forest products according to transit regulations specific to each state. This means that if someone wants to transport timber or forest produce between states, they need to obtain separate transit passes from each state.

Advantages of the National Transit Pass System:

  • This plan wants to make getting permits for moving wood, bamboo and other forest things quicker.
  • It means quickly giving out permits without having to go in person to the offices of forests.
  • Moreover, the idea proposes using one licence for all countries to make things easier.
  • A mobile app would be used to make moving across state borders easy.
  • The aim is to make it easier for farmers and shippers to get permits and pass through forest checkpoints.
  • This would save time and money on transport, plus make business in that area easier by having a good effect across the whole worth system.
  • In the end, this plan wants to boost farmers’ money and encourage growing trees under farms.
