About National Investigation Agency (NIA)

  • Institutional Establishment: 
      • The Union government enacted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act after the wake of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack in November 2008 and it is currently functioning as the Central Counter Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency in India.
  • Objectives: 
      • To be a thoroughly expert investigative company matching the great international requirements.
      • To set the requirements of excellence in counter terrorism and other countrywide safety associated investigations on the national level via developing into an exceptionally skilled, partnership orientated team of workers.
      • Ensuring powerful and speedy trials.
      • Creating deterrence for existing and capability terrorist corporations/people.

  • Jurisdiction:
      • The law beneath which the agency operates extends to the whole of India and additionally applies to Indian residents outside the country.

  • NIA (Amendment) Act 2019:

  • NIA Special Courts:

    • Power of State Government to constitute Special Courts: The State Government may additionally represent one or extra Special Courts for the trial of offences under any or all of the enactments special within the Schedule.
