NABARD Foundation Day

Context- The 42nd Foundation Day event of NABARD featured remarks from the Union Home Minister and the Minister of Cooperation.

NABARD 

  • It is an apex regulatory body for overall regulation of regional rural banks and apex cooperative banks in India.
  • The Indian government’s Ministry of Finance is in charge of it.

Objectives 

  • The bank has been endowed with “matters concerning strategy, arranging, and tasks in the field of credit for horticulture and other financial exercises in rural areas in India”.
  • NABARD is dynamic in creating and executing financial inclusions.

Background 

  • In order to carry out the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Act of 1981, NABARD was established in 1982 based on the recommendations of the B. Sivaraman Committee.
  • It supplanted the Agrarian Credit Division (ACD) and Rustic Preparation and Credit Cell (RPCC) of RBI and Farming Renegotiate and Advancement Organization (ARDC).

Bank Guideline

  • NABARD directs State Helpful Banks (StCBs), Area Agreeable National Banks (DCCBs), and Territorial Country Banks (RRBs) and conducts legal investigations of these banks.

Achievements of NABARD

  • Rs. 5 lakh crore has been authorized under the country’s Rural Infrastructure Development Fund and 41 million hectares of land come under irrigation through NABARD.
  • 13 million metric ton limit distribution centers have been set up in the country with the money of NABARD.
  • NABARD has around 7000 Farmers producer Organizations (FPOs) the nation over, which guarantee that farmers get remunerative prices for their produce.
