The INS Sumitra of the Indian Navy successfully rescued a group of hijacked fishermen in the waters off the east coast of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden.
About INS Sumitra & its features:
- This is the final Saryu-class patrol vessel of the Indian Navy, which was built by Goa Shipyard Limited and commissioned in 2014.
- It is stationed in Chennai and operates under the Eastern Naval Command.
- Its main responsibilities include monitoring the country’s exclusive economic zone, conducting anti-piracy patrols, providing fleet support, ensuring security for offshore assets, and carrying out escort operations.
Features:
- The ship is 105 metres long, 13 metres wide, and weighs 2,200 tonnes.
- It can travel at a speed of 25 knots and has a range of 6,500 nautical miles.
- It is powered by two diesel engines and has various weapons and sensors, including a 76.2 mm gun, close-in weapon systems, and advanced radars.
- It can carry one Dhruv/Chetak helicopter and has two fast-motor boats.
2.Exercise -Sada Tanseeq

India and Saudi Arabia are strengthening their relationship through their first Joint Military Exercise called Sada Tanseeq.
About:
- The first-ever India-Saudi Arabia Joint Military Exercise called ‘SADA TANSEEQ’ has begun in Rajasthan.
- The exercise aims to train troops from both countries for joint operations in semi-desert terrain.
- It will also allow them to share their best practices in sub-conventional operations and enhance interoperability and camaraderie.
- The exercise will involve various activities such as establishing vehicle check posts, conducting search operations, and practising shooting and sniping techniques.
- The Exercise will provide an opportunity to both the contingents to strengthen their bond.
