Kerala tops NITI Aayog’s Health Performance Index
Kerala remained the best-performing state in the health indicators for a fourth consecutive time, according to an index released on Monday, which also ranked Uttar Pradesh at the bottom of the rankings although the state also saw the most progress. Among large states, Kerala and Tamil Nadu topped the list, and Telangana emerged strong on the third position in health outcomes and incremental performance. The state saw an improvement from the 4th position the last time — indicating that it has made strides in improving its health infrastructure by ensuring universal immunisation of children, setting up fully functional First Referral Units (FRUs) and all Primary Health Centres (PHCs) among others.

Telangana tops in Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM)
Telangana stood first in the implementation of the Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM) that was launched four years ago to stimulate local economic development, enhance basic services and create well planned clusters. Sangareddy and Kamareddy districts stood in the first two positions among the 300 clusters across the country where the programme was being implemented. Tamil Nadu and Gujarat took the second and third positions respectively. In Telangana, in as many as 17 clusters (12 non-tribal and five tribal), the programme was being implemented at an estimated cost of ₹1,885.12 crore.

Defence Min inaugurates Brahmos missile manufacturing unit in Lucknow
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday reiterated that Russia was India’s strategic partner. Further, Singh supported the nuclear and other military deterrents of India to preempt external threats on the Indian soil. Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation of BrahMos Aerospace cruise missile manufacturing unit in Lucknow, Singh said the project was a testimony of the defence manufacturing cooperation between the two countries. BrahMos is a joint venture between the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India and NPOM, Russia to develop next-generation supersonic missiles for the Indian forces.

HDFC Bank ties up with IPPB to offer its banking services in rural areas
HDFC Bank has tied up with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) to offer its banking services to the unbanked and underserved segments in semi-urban and rural areas. A memorandum of understanding was signed between HDFC Bank and IPPB to cater to the majority of over 4.7 crore customer base of IPPB. About 90 percent of IPPB customers reside in rural areas, which may benefit from this tie-up. HDFC Bank said the strategic alliance will enable IPPB to provide affordable and diversified offerings, including access to finance, to its customers through its innovative Doorstep Banking Service. With nearly 2,00,000 postal service providers (Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks) equipped with micro ATMs and biometric devices, IPPB caters to the needs and requirements of various customer segments.
