Context
- The exercise Lamitiye 2024 is the tenth in a series that’s every two years between the Indian Army and these forces, calling it “Friendship”.
- They have been planned for Seychelles since then.
- Exercise Lamitiye – 2024 involved 45 members from both Gorkha Rifles in India and the SDF and took place March 18-27, 2004 in Seychelles.
The Main Aim of this ‘Exercise Lamitiye – 2024’
- The purpose of this kind of exercise was to allow the armed forces from different countries to take part in peacekeeping operations. This was set out under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations.
- Moreover, the exercise hoped to promote and consolidate military relationships between two countries through targeted exchange sessions where participating soldiers had a chance to learn from first-hand experience the skills, methods practised in Army X or Y.
- While in the exercise, the attending armies carried out joint training, planning, tactical exercises and other measures to eliminate suspected threats in the semi-urban environment. This included all the standard equipment and other required things on show.
- For a ten-day period, the exercise covered training in the field, discussion of combat tactics, lectures on topics and demonstrations. The final two days of the exercise were given over to a validation phase, during which exercises were conducted in order to check out effective training and tactics.
