Context

“Annual NeSDA Way Forward Report 2023”, a report recently published by the   (DARPG) which says that the number of e-services listed on the NeSDA way forward dashboard is highest in case of Jammu & Kashmir i.e. 1,117 e-services.

What are the Key Points of the Report

E-Governance & its services

  • The NeSDA Way Forward dashboard demonstrated the use of digital services in various sectors is widespread. A total of 16,487 e-services have been mapped by it by the end of December 2023.
  • The leading e-services delivery states are Jammu & Kashmir followed by Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala.
  • The least e-services delivery states are Manipur followed by Lakshadweep, Ladakh, Sikkim and Nagaland.
  • The e-service provision in Manipur was inspired by the huge success of e-service in Jammu & Kashmir with 1120 e-services and 100% service delivery.

Important Aspects

  • Out of all the states/UTs the most e-services offered by J&K and that is 1,117 services available.
  • In the Local Governance and Utility Service Sector, the highest number of e-services are provided.
  • In case of mandatory e-services, the tourism sectors lead with 23 e-services and environment & labour & employment sector leads with 20 states/UTs 

Service-related Challenges

  • There is an acute need for collaborative efforts which shall enhance Digital Governance in underdeveloped states. Manipur is struggling to provide e-services compared to other regions.

About NeSDA Portal

  • A two-group category of Government portal has been existing which are (1) the concerned state, territory or central ministry staff, (2) the staff involved in the services of the central ministry staffs.
  • Upon four main criteria, the above portals were assessed. That are, Usability, portability, content availability, and information security.
  • And upon some additional criteria, the central ministry portal has been assessed. That are, Integrated service delivery, target delivery and tracking of status and request.

Conclusion

  • As we all know that and it is evident from the globalisation point of view that, E-Governance is a must and its gaining good traction in India, but at the same time it is very much crucial to address the prevailing issues related to it such as public awareness and the digital divide.
  • And further, with technological advancement, to have effective e-services, we must have robust and high-speed internet connectivity and the implementation of nationwide upcoming 5G technology which shall definitely enhance the effectiveness of E-Services.
