Context

The return of nuclear conflict has re-emerged due to rising nuclear nationalism, geopolitical tensions, and risks of nuclear war. To prevent this, nations must work together through diplomacy, international agreements, and disarmament initiatives.

Spectre of Nuclear Conflict: An Overview

It is not for the first time since the crisis in October 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis that the threat of Nuclear warfare has arisen in the world. They fail to pinpoint specific influential global leaders who are likely to make the situation worse which makes it even more scary.

  • French President Emmanuel Macron’s ‘Apocalyptic Vision’
      • The movement has been taken by French President; Emmanuel Macron when he spoke about an imminent nuclear war. It reinforces nuclear ‘destruction,’ and stresses that Russia’s behaviour should not be unnoticed.
      • The French word Macron used in the speech, which is ‘French Nuclear Deterrent,’ suggests France is among the world’s countries with considerable nuclear stockpiles.
  • Russia’s Role and Increasing Belligerence
  • Conflict escalation due to Russia’s actions can be highlighted in the context of the Ukraine Theatre where fighting continues and the prospect of a nuclear clash appears to be higher. That’s why urgent attention should be paid to the words in Putin’s statements that may be perceived as nuclear threats.
  • Nuclear weapons can no longer be viewed as a fairy tale or something remote as the threat is all too real in Ukraine right now.
  • Leadership Vacuum and Global Instability

Geopolitical Tensions
