Bloomberg Global Aggregate Bond Index

In News: Indian government bonds have again been delayed for inclusion in Bloomberg Index Services Ltd. (BISL)’s Bloomberg Global Aggregate Bond Index.

  • About Bloomberg Global Aggregate Bond Index
  • It is Bloomberg’s premier investment-grade bond index, covering government, corporate and securitised bonds in developed and emerging markets. 
  • It is a reference for fixed-income investors and passive investment funds globally. 
  • The countries that comprise the index tend to have higher foreign investment opportunities in bonds. 

Revamped Khelo India Scheme

In News: The Union Cabinet has approved an expanded Khelo India Scheme and boosted the Funding to National Sports Federations (ANSFs) with a total outlay of Rs 36,441 crore for the next five financial years from 2026-27 to 2030-31. 

  • In 2016-17, the ‘Khelo India – National Programme for Development of Sports’ was launched with dual objectives of mass participation and promotion of excellence in sports all over the country.
  • The new scheme aims to provide a smooth transition for every young Indian, from playgrounds to sports fields in the villages to the Olympic podium. 
  • It is aligned with the vision of Khelo Bharat Niti 2025 and the National Education Policy 2020.
  • The scheme sets up an all-encompassing sports ecosystem across the country, comprising National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), Khelo India Centres of Excellence (KICoEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), Khelo India Centres (KICs) and Youth Sports Companies (YSCs) of the Armed Forces.
  • These institutions will deliver world-class coaching, sports science support and modern infrastructure throughout the country.
  • Emerging Khelo India Athletes: Emerging Khelo India Athletes (E-KIAs) is a new category, which will help in expanding the structured athlete development ecosystem by almost 10 times.
  • Fit India Movement will be greatly expanded to make fitness a movement across the country, especially among the youth. 
  • The Government will set up the National Coach Accreditation Board (NCAB) to standardise the qualification of coaches, enhance the professionalism and the capacity of coaches and support staff throughout the country.

Mahanadi water dispute

In News: The Mahanadi water dispute between Odisha  and Chhattisgarh has resurfaced as  both states engage in high-level talks mediated by the Centre to reach an amicable solution. 

Core Issues 

  • Upstream Construction: Odisha claims Chhattisgarh’s unilateral barrages reduce non-monsoon downstream flow. 
  • Catchment Rights: Chhattisgarh asserts rights based on its larger basin and upper riparian status.

  • Bilateral Talks: Chief ministers agreed to a 3-month resolution window under a Central Water Commission committee. 
  • Tribal/Legal Status: The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal continues oversight under the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act. 

Exercise ROTOR CLAP III

In News: The Indian Air Force  successfully wrapped up Exercise ROTOR CLAP III at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan . The week-long drill focused on counter-drone tactics, combat readiness, and live-firing missions using various helicopter units.

  • Location: Pokhran Field Firing Range, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan [1, 2]
