Nyishi Tribe

In News:  Mountaineer and cricketer Kabak Yano recently made history as the fifth woman from Arunachal Pradesh and the first from the Nyishi tribe to successfully scale Mt. Everest.

• The Nyishi are the largest ethnic group in Arunachal Pradesh, with a population of around 300,000. 
• Their traditional language, Nishi, combines the words “nyi” meaning “man” and “shi” meaning “being” to refer to a civilised human being.
•  They are known for their expertise in agriculture, hunting, fishing, and various handicrafts. 
• The Nyishi follow Christianity, Hinduism, and the indigenous Donyi Polo religion. 
• They celebrate three major festivals to pray for a good harvest and prosperity. Polygyny is common among the Nyishi, who trace their descent patrilineally and are divided into clans. 
• Their society is not based on a caste system or classes, but does have social distinctions based on factors other than birth or occupation. 
• Women are considered crucial for peace, progress, and prosperity in Nyishi society.

Mundra Port

In News: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone’s Mundra Port recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.

• Mundra Port in Gujarat, India, is the largest private and container port in the country, situated on the Gulf of Kutch. 
• It is a deep-draft, all-weather port and operates as a special economic zone.
