Prelims Focus 28th April 2026

Sahyog Portal
In News: In India, like in a handful of other countries, the content moderation systems operated by apps such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram) permanently block such content at scale and automatically.
- Sahyog Portal is a unified online platform introduced in 2024 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), to be operated by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
- The Portal is a One-Screen interface for accredited law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to issue rapid and simultaneous notices for blocking or removal of illegal online content.
- The portal was initially designed only as an offline portal during the pandemic. Subsequently, it has been adapted in late 2024 as the major mode of content moderation.
Project AI4WaterPolicy
In News: AI4WaterPolicy project in Rajasthan benefited community development.
- The pilot AI4WaterPolicy project was implemented in water-scarce Sirohi and Pali districts of Rajasthan.
- An AI model conducted 352 interviews in 50 villages over six months with a field partner.
- Real-time, AI-supported thematic analysis identified problems such as women’s gender burden, delay in funding and awareness about Panchayat processes.
- Significance: Findings resulted in mid-point policy reorientation (reshaping training, govt interface), enhancing community participation, and showing that AI can perform services and empower participatory, responsive policy making rather than just automate services.
- The process enhanced existing government initiatives through better feedback and response at the last mile.
B’nei Menashe
In News: Some 250 B’nei Menashe ethnic people from the states of Manipur and Mizoram have landed in Tel Aviv, purporting to be descendants of one of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel.
- The B’n e Menashe are members of the Mizo and the Kuki tribes from Manipur and Mizoram.
- The B’nei Menashe identify with the tribe of Tribe of Manasseh in the bible, which Jewish tradition claims was exiled following the Assyrian invasion of Israel in 722 BCE.
- According to their oral tradition they travelled from Persia and Afghanistan to Northeast India, but evidence is scant.
- Their claim evolved from a combination of 19th-20th Century Christian missionary activity and local revivalist movements, as well as later contact with Jewish groups like Amishav who fostered connections with the people of biblical Israel.
- Since the 1980s, many converted to Judaism, moved to Israel in small groups, and were later on partially accepted by Israeli religious leaders, although scientific evidence is unclear and their status has been questioned.
- Thousands have now emigrated to Israel with government aid but suffer from discrimination.
- There are other such claims of “lost tribe” ancestry in India and neighbouring areas including the B’nei Ephraim and some Pashtuns in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Road Safety: A Fundamental Right
In News: The Supreme Court of India officially declared the right to safe travel on National Highways as an integral part of the fundamental Right to Life under Article 21 in April 2026. In its ruling, the Court emphasized that Article 21 imposes a “positive mandate” on the State to preserve human life by ensuring a safe environment, meaning road safety is now a constitutional obligation rather than just a policy goal.
