PARAKH

Context– The Education Ministry recently held a meet and workshop on PARAKH that aimed to unify a network of 60 school examination boards of various States and Union Territories under one umbrella.
Key highlights:
- The workshop shall study school assessments, examination practices and equivalence of boards across the country.
- The workshop on PARAKH shall act as a common platform for interaction of all stakeholders concerned in order to develop a holistic approach that ensures a fair assessment system which promotes equity in performance and equivalence in assessment of students and enables seamless transitions for students moving between different boards or regions.
About PARAKH:
- The PARAKH (Performance Assessment ,Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development ) ,the national assessment regulator, was set up as an organization under the NCERT- National Council for Education Research and Training as part of the implementation of the National Education Policy NEP-2020 .
- The body was set up with an aim to advise school boards regarding assessment patterns ,latest research and promote collaboration.
- The platform was also tasked to hold regular learning outcome tests like the NAS-National achievement Survey and the State Achievement Surveys.
- The platform aimed to work on three major assessment areas i.e ,the large-scale assessments, school-based assessments and examination reforms
- The major objective was to bring about uniform norms and guidelines on evaluation and assessment, enhance assessment pattern, reduce the disparity in evaluation and remove disparity in college admissions and bring about a progressive shift towards education with scientific and holistic development.
