India appeals against WTO ruling on sugar export subsidies

India has appealed against a ruling of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) trade dispute settlement panel which ruled that the country’s domestic support measures for sugar and sugarcane are inconsistent with global trade norms, an official said. The appeal was filed by India in the WTO’s Appellate Body, which is the final authority on such trade disputes. India has stated that the WTO’s dispute panel ruling has made certain “erroneous” findings about domestic schemes to support sugarcane producers and exports and the findings of the panel are completely “unacceptable” to it.

Government releases draft national air sports policy

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has released draft National Air Sports Policy (NASP) for public feedback. The draft policy is available on the website of the Ministry and the suggestions for the same can be sent by 5 pm on January 31, 2022. As per an official release issued by the ministry on Sunday, the policy seeks to leverage India’s potential for air sports and places a strong focus on ensuring international best practices in safety. The vision of the policy is to make India one of the top air sports nations by 2030. The release further said that the draft National Air Sports Policy (NASP 2022) is a step in this direction and has been drafted on the basis of the inputs received from policymakers, air sports practitioners and the public at large.

Centre sticks to Rs. 8 lakh annual income criteria for reservation to EWS Candidates

The Centre has told the Supreme Court that it has decided to retain the existing 8 lakh rupees annual income criteria for candidates of Economic Weaker Sections for NEET-PG counselling. In an affidavit filed before the apex court, the government said that its decision is based on the recommendations of the expert committee. The Centre said, changing the criteria midway will lead to complications in the ongoing admissions. The expert committee in its report on Review of the Criteria for EWS Reservation has recommended that disturbing the existing system which is ongoing since 2019 will create more complications both for the beneficiaries as well as for the authorities.

Education Minister launches NEAT 3.0

Union Education Minister and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday launched NEAT 3.0, a single platform to provide the best-developed ed-tech solutions and courses to students of the country. The minister also launched AICTE prescribed technical books in regional languages. Mr Pradhan said NEAT will be a game-changer in bridging the digital divide, especially among the economically disadvantaged students and also in fulfilling the knowledge-based requirement of India and the world. National Educational Alliance for Technology (NEAT) is an initiative to provide the use of best-developed technological solutions in the education sector to enhance the employability of the youth on a single platform for learners’ convenience.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla releases CyberPravah

Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla today released three manuals and a newsletter of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre. The manuals are part of a focussed awareness campaign for prevention of cyber crimes and to inculcate cyber hygiene in rural areas, industrial bodies and public. The quarterly newsletter CyberPravah aims to create awareness about recent developments in the field of cyber crimes and cyber crime terminology. Government is spreading mass awareness through various social media handles in the name of CyberDost by providing cyber safety tips at frequent intervals for the public.
