Parliament passes Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021

Parliament on Monday passed the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 during the first day of its winter session. The Centre’s three farm laws have been repealed by both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the fastest repeal in recent years amid protests by the opposition parties. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar tabled the Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021 in Rajya Sabha soon after resumption after the temporary adjournment. Notably, the Bill was already circulated among Rajya Sabha members on Friday. Before the motion was adopted for the passage of the bill, RS Deputy Chairman Harivansh allowed Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to speak for two minutes.

First edition of the India Young Water Professional Programme launched

The first edition of the India Young Water Professional Programme (IYWPP) launched virtually today. Mr. Manpreet Vohra, Indian High Commissioner to Australia, Barry O’ Farrell, Australian High Commissioner to India, and Ms. Debashree Mukherjee, Additional Secretary, Department of Water Resources, Ministry of Jal Shakti attended the program.  More than 100 participants joined the launch program. This program has been taken up under the National Hydrology Project. In the program, India High Commissioner Manpreet Vohra said, water is a key priority area of collaboration between India and Australia and both countries are working actively on this front. He said, the program is a significant milestone in India- Australia relationship and will go a long way in institutional strengthening and capacity building.

Bi-annual meeting of border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh held

The bi-annual meeting of the two border guarding forces: India’s Border Security Force and Bangladesh’s Border Guard Bangladesh ended today. The meeting resolved to maintain peace and tranquillity along the Indo-Bangla border. The three-day conference, scheduled for November 27- 29, was hosted by Frontier Headquarters of the BSF at Umpling, Shillong. The conference is held bi-annually between the two border guarding forces to discuss issues related to smuggling of cattle, drugs, Fake Indian Currency Note, contraband items and to resolve the matters having security bearing along the international border to maintain peace. The conference culminated today with the signing of the Joint Record of Discussion (JRD) by the leaders of both delegations.

NITI Aayog releases report on online dispute resolution

The NITI Aayog on Monday released a report on Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) to advance access to justice and ensure that cases do not end up before higher courts. The policy think tank proposed measures at three levels to address the challenges in adopting ODR. The report titled “Designing the future of dispute Resolution: the ODR Policy Plan for India ” recommends increasing digital infrastructure, building capacity, regulatory framework, including permission for online notarization, and implementing it in a phased manner, etc. The report is a culmination of the action plan made by a committee constituted at the peak of the Covid crisis by NITI Aayog on ODR in 2020 and chaired by Supreme Court Justice (Retd) AK Sikri, said an official.
