Conference of CPA India Region being held at Lucknow

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today said that the belief in the democracy has increased today and so is the responsibility of the representatives. He was speaking after inaugurating the 7th Conference of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association India Region in the legislative assembly building in Lucknow. Presiding officers, Secretary-General, Principal Secretaries and Secretaries along with the representatives of foreign countries are participating in the two-day long conference. The main theme of the conference is ‘ROLE OF LEGISLATORS’ and during the Plenary Sessions spread over two days, delegates will discuss the Capacity Building of Legislators for Scrutinizing Budgetary Proposals and Enhancing Focus of Legislators on Legislative Business. State Governor, Anandiben Patel will address the Valedictory Session tomorrow.

Coast Guards of India and Japan conduct ‘Sahyog-Kaijin’ exercise

The Coast Guards of India and Japan today conducted a joint exercise in the Bay of Bengal to “gauge inter-operability” where a series of activities, including scenarios of hijacking and rescue were performed. The joint exercise, named ‘Sahyog-Kaijin-XV’, saw ships, choppers and personnel from either sides engage in a variety of activities witnessed by the Director General of Indian Coast Guard Vice Admiral H C S Bisht and Vice Commandant of Japan Coast Guard Vice Admiral Hideyo Hanamizu.

Arunachal becomes first Indian state to sign MoU with IUCN

Arunachal Pradesh has become the first state to initiate to prepare the IUCN Red List assessments for all orchids in the state by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Union for Conservation on Nature (IUCN). The MoU was signed by Manmohan Singh Negi, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) and Head of Forest Forces (HoFF) and Dr. Vivek Saxena, Country Representative, IUCN India in the PCCF office on January 13. This project will spread across 12 months, wherein training workshops for Red List Assessment will be conducted by experts from IUCN Red List Unit and Species Programme Headquarters, Gland, Switzerland. The Department of Environment and Forests will be the nodal department for execution of this project.

Global economy grew 2.3% in 2019: WESP 2020 report

GDP growth in India and few other large emerging countries may gain some momentum this year after the global economy recorded its lowest growth of 2.3 per cent in 2019 due to prolonged trade disputes, a UN study said on Thursday while lowering its current and next fiscal forecasts for the Indian economy. According to the United Nations World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2020, a growth rate of 2.5 per cent is possible in 2020, but a flare up of trade tensions, financial turmoil, or an escalation of geopolitical tensions could derail a recovery. In the downside scenario, global growth would slow down to just 1,8% this year.

‘Indian Heritage in Digital Space’ Exhibition being organised in New Delhi

The Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (IC), ShriPrahlad Singh Patel launched a month long special exhibition titled ‘Indian Heritage in Digital Space’ and a two day long first international heritage symposium in New Delhi. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. The exhibition will remain open for public till 15th February, 2020. Secretary of Department of Science & technology Shri Ashutosh Sharmawas also present on this occasion.
